Hi, I’m Henry - a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student studying at Imperial. I offer tutoring services for A level, GCSE and KS3 Maths and Physics along with university application guidance. I have a strong background in Maths and Physics, with A*A at A-Level, and I’m currently applying these subjects in applied engineering. Therefore, I understand the fundamentals taught at school and know how to explain them clearly, as well as show how they connect to real-world applications. As someone with experience in doing multiple stressful exams throughout my time at school and university, I understand that everyone learns differently and that finding the right approach is key to truly understanding a topic. I aim to adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s needs and help build both confidence and clarity. Please feel free to book your free trial with me to help build confidence, improve understanding, and achieve your academic goals. I went to Worthing High School and did my GCSEs including a 9-8 in combined science and an 8 in Maths. I then went to BHASVIC and achieved an A*AAA in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and AS Further Maths. I have now currently finished my second year at Imperial as a Mechanical Engineering student and am predicted a 2:1.

Hello! My name is Shruti and I have always been fascinated by technology and how it shapes the world we live in. I have a strong passion for mathematics and science. I enjoy the challenges of solving complex problems and finding different solutions, which strengthen analytical thinking as well as problem-solving skills. I believe this is very important because it helps us to understand problems better and enables us to break them down into smaller, more manageable parts, which is also very crucial to learn. This also allows us to evaluate options logically instead of just guessing. Alongside this, I love listening to music. Listening to different genres helps me to relax and stay motivated; it also enhances my focus, concentration and memory. For me, music also works by blocking out distractions and creating a very steady rhythm for the brain to follow, which further increases my level of concentration. I also enjoy learning different languages because I believe this helps with connecting to different people from diverse backgrounds. Cognitively, learning a new language strengthens memory, problem-solving skills, as well as concentration. Altogether, these skills helped me to build confidence and independence. Therefore, I became better at explaining new ideas clearly and in an easily understandable way. I also became better at learning new things and finding solutions quickly to different problems. This is extremely essential in fields like engineering and tutoring! Throughout my academic years, I have attended Queen Mary's High School, and after that, I attended Queen Mary's Grammar School for sixth form. Currently, I am a first year Computer Engineering Student at the University of Birmingham.During my school years and university so far, I have completed assignments, projects which have helped me to develop my analytical thinking skills and experience explaining difficult concepts easily. Furthermore, I have also done mentoring before in school, where I was teaching maths to a GCSE student, and this also enabled my skills to improve and gave me more experience of teaching.

Prior to university, I attended KEVI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys from Year 7 to 13, securing straight A and A* grades across both my A-Levels (Maths, Physics, and Computer Science) and my GCSEs (Maths, English Literature and Language, Triple Science, DT, Art, Music, Religious Studies, and Computer Science). As a testament to my academic foundation in STEM, I successfully completed the ESAT during my application cycle, which earned me an interview and a subsequent offer to study Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London, an institution ranked second in the world for engineering.

My degree has given me a strong understanding of key theories as well as research methods, including both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I have experience in designing and conducting empirical research. Throughout my studies, I have engaged in a multitude of modules, such as developmental psychology, biopsychology, personality theory and neuropsychology. I have completed coursework that relied heavily on critical analysis of academic literature. Additionally, I studied at Sandhurst Sixth form where I took Biology, Sociology and Psychology as A levels, learning and building the necessary foundations for my university years. I conducted lab tests in biology and qualitative research for both psychology and sociology. I solidified by critical thinking and my ability to efficiently understand topics.

Last year I completed the International Baccalaureate, and have also taken GCSEs and IGCSEs. I studied all three of my subjects at IB level as well as at GCSE/IGCSE. I have also had tutoring experience from primary-GCSE level, with a preference for GCSE tutoring. I have also done courses on Autism, ADHD, and mental health and have taught people with SEND. I am also indifferent to the age of my students but would prefer to teach at GCSE level. Personally, I would describe myself as open-minded, kind, and caring and would also say that I am a nerd! I adore all things Star Wars, Harry Potter, and also love animals. I've had experience tutoring students at GCSE level for a variety of different subjects. I have also done work experience and volunteering at local state and private schools, particularly at primary-GCSE levels. My personal academic achievements include: Ten 9s and One 8 at GCSE/IGCSE Three 7s (A*s) at IB Three 6s (A*/A) at IB

What is the IGCSE?
The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.
It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.
Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.
What is the focus of the IGCSE?
The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:
Subject content
The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
Intellectual enquiry
Flexibility and responsiveness to change
Working and communicating in English
Influencing outcomes
Cultural awareness
What subjects are studied?
IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.
Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).
Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.
Preparing for the IGCSEs
Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.
The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.
Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.
Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.
How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?
A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.
GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.
