Hi I’m Mahnoor! I am a qualified English teacher with years of experience both in tutoring and school teaching. I am 24 years old. I am from Dingle, the heart of the Ghaeltacht of Corca Dhuibhne. I learned my Irish growing up here. I am a fluent Irish speaker and from the age of 3, I was emmersed in the Irish language, and under took all my schooling through Irish. (Yes, Maths, Biology, everything! I still do Maths in my head in Irish as a result of this!) I tutor Irish with a big focus on examination results, and, having sat the Irish Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams myself, have a deep understanding of them and how they are graded. In this way, I focus on building the confidence of the student by training them to answer the questions to attain maximum marks. I am also a very systematic person, and love to share my planning and strategic processes of breaking down questions and exams in order to simply them, so that the student can achieve the grade that they are capable of attaining. I, myself was terrible at maths at school, and trained myself through systems, recall and discipline to attain a H3 in higher level maths in the Leaving Cert. I really do believe that any student is capable of doing the same in the Irish exam if they have the right approach. I take this systematic approach to everything that I do, whether that be in my professional job with the IDA as a client advisor, or in sport, with running, football or basketball. My discipline in this approach has served me so well in my life to date, and I would love to share this with you through my tutoring. Elsewhere, I am well travelled, having spent a year living in New York City, working in sales, and another year studying in France. Thanks to this experience, I also speak French. GCSE: English Literature and Language A Level: English Literature and Language Experience with: Welsh and English schooling system Preferred student age group: Primary level Ever since my parents introduced me to the world of Roald Dahl and Beatrix Potter, my love for English language and literature has exponentially increased. Before moving to London for university, I lived on a farm in Wales with my family - and many cats! Due to babysitting my two younger cousins for the last five years, I have realised that I love to work with children. I am in awe of their ability to view the world from a perspective so different from the regular adult we encounter every day. My favourite book of all time is 'Silence of the Girls' by Pat Barker. This novel is an essential read, not only for women, but also the male population. It illustrates how the current state of affairs within the international sphere replicates modern day phenomena, with violence against women repeatedly being used as a weapon of war. Thus, my interest in gender-based scholarly studies and the international feminist movement is continually growing. Whilst I love to read in my spare time, I also enjoy singing and meeting new people. However, when I am not singing or socialising, I enjoy playing table tennis and badminton with my older brother. Not only this, but I love fashion and keeping up with the latest trends. Whilst I enjoy keeping active, as illustrated by my part-time lifeguarding job throughout secondary school, seeking the greatest bargains in charity shops is something I could not live without. I am easily distracted by stories, both fictional and non-fictional, and I hope I can bring a fresh and compelling perspective to GoStudent! Education: London School of Economics and Political Science I grew up on a farm in the middle of Wales, attending both primary and secondary school in my neighbouring town. After achieving six A*s, one A and one B in my GCSEs, I was very intrigued to discover how A Level education could continue to challenge me. After receiving three As and an A* in my A Levels (the A* being in English literature and language), I decided to go to the London School of Economics and Political Science to study Politics and International Relations. Despite not studying English in university, I have found that the endless essays I was required to produce have undoubtedly contributed to the continuous improvement of my English skills, and my love for English in general. I have completed my first year in university and look forward to returning to see what second year has to offer! Despite currently being in higher education, I am certainly very excited by the prospect of teaching younger children and helping them to discover how English can be fun! Of course, education is about learning and discovering our strengths, and how we can improve in other weaker areas to enable us to be the best possible version of ourselves! However, if we are not enjoying ourselves when learning, this obviously makes education seem less inviting!
